The GR tries to disassociate the Debian distribution with non-free
by removing non-free from debian.org. However, John said above
that merely being on debian.org does not associate something with
the Debian distribution. This would seem to demonstrate that
the GR serves no real purpose.

John has not disputed this conclusion. Nor have you, nor any other
GR supporter.
