Even smaller and nearer to minimal than the netinstall CD. And there is a nice howto: http://www.debiantutorials.org/talkitup/archive.php/archive.php?topic=139.0 A trifle long in the tooth, but the basic principles haven't changed.
Though too young to recall taming of fire and invention of wheel, I don't consider old bad <grin>. I'll test with Squeeze. It just might be foundation I'm looking for.
