value for money, and anything offered freely is likely to be out of
date.

Whatever you decide, there are useful sites and mailing lists you might
keep up with in parallel to any specific training. Here is a good
selection: http://seclists.org/

Here is the site I usually use to look up unusual activity on a
particular port, and if I have a few spare minutes, I frighten myself by
reading the last two or three diary entries: https://isc.sans.edu/
