gibberish in log files

For awhile, maybe a month, my logs sometimes contain garbage like this
(lines with * in front):

In this particular case it is associated with other activity (creating
lvm snapshots and opening the file systems on them; those file systems
are dirty triggering lots of cleanup messages), but that is not always
the case.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?  My main concern is that it
might indicate disk or memory corruption.
