Old xmms.
I can try xmms2. I used it because it has a l-r balance slider. Vlc and xine
lack this.

I tried this. It needs a -D argument. Playing to HW:0, the intel, I hear the
pink noise but this is centered, mono, rather than left then right as
displayed.
Same results to HW:1, the lexicon, but the level was too low to show on its VU
indicators so I could not tell whether the left-right was actually happening.
