Does the working system have a file called "org.gnome.SettingsDaemon" in
this directory? (Note that I do not know Gnome very well, so Iam just
guessing based on what I know about dbus.)

Google give me the impression that the dbus proxy warning might not even
be relevant for the segfault you are seeing. Let's check against which
libraries totem is linked on the broken system, with this command:

ldd `which totem`
