RAID is a tool.  You look at your system requirements and often
RAID will help your meet them.  But requirements differ and RAID
applications differ.

Earlier Henrique pooh-poohed the idea of not swapping over RAID,
but there are of course situations where performance trumps risk.

As for three-disk RAID 1, it's useful where disk reads are the
bottleneck and disk write volume (including atime updates) is low.
