setting proper resolution on my lcd

Hi folks,

just got a brnad new dell 1905fp, which mostly works great. Having
trouble getting it to display at its native 1280x1024, though.
Instead I seem to have it at 1162x1054, which would be fine, but the
fonts look a little bit unsharp.

I've messed around a bit with my xorg.conf, (I'm running sid, a little
out of date, still have 6.8.2-dfsg.1-9 installed) but none of the
changes I make seem to help with this particular problem. Here are
the relevant bits of my xorg.conf (lots of extraneous stuff snipped:

----------------------
Section "Device"
	Identifier	"geforce 4 ddr"
	Driver "nv"
#	Screen 0
	BusID "PCI:01:00:00"

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "DELL 1905FP"
#	VendorName "DELL"
#	ModelName "Dell 1905FB (Analog)"
	Option "DPMS"
	HorizSync 30.0 - 80.0
	VertRefresh 56.0 - 76.0
EndSection

Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
	Device "geforce 4 ddr"
        Monitor "Dell 1905FP"

	EndSubSection
	SubSection "Display"

	SubSection "Display"

	EndSubSection

----------------------------
so, I'm using the Free nv drivers on my geforce 4 mx 440 (aging now),
with the modelines you see there. For some reason my screen
nonetheless defaults to 1152x864 (which IS listed as an option in
other screen sections of xorg.conf, but is clearly not present in
this one).

So I cruised through xorg's log at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and found osme
interesting stuff:

So, I don't know much about this, but the display seems to think
1280x1024 is too big -- which I'm pretty sure is false.

googling around I found this thread from July 2005:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2005/06/msg00490.html
but had trouble interpreting it &/or using it as a guide. Does this
perhaps suggest I should upgrade my xserver-xorg packages?

anyway, all hel as usual thankfully received.

Matt
