..if sshd is shut down, have your folks go into the "Knoppix" menu, 
then "Services", then "Start SSH server".  After that, you may want 
them to check "ifconfig" and mail you the output.

..to let you in as root or knoppix, passwords must be set, 
have them go into the "Knoppix" menu, then "Root shell", 
and advice them what to type.
