is the cd ok? (can a different
box boot it? or, can the lap-
top boot any other cd?)

my laptop with a combo dvd/cd
burner booted a woody cd (for
a _base_ install, upon which
i upgraded to sid). dvd's are
"backwards" compatible with
cd's, so if cd drive can read
a cd, a dvd drive will read
the same cd, as well.

kthxbye.
