the 100% sure way i found for both potato and hamm(2.1) was to download
the X 3.3.6 source from ftp.xfree86.org and compile the agpgart module
that is included with the source, run a find:
find . -name "agp*"
it is buried deep in the tree and i do not think it is compiled by
default while building the whole tree with make world. once you compile
the module insert it, copy it to a safe place, and run X. no changes
to the X server are needed under potato or hamm.
