setting up a debian system

I am interested in setting up a debian or linux system as a mail server.

I've chosen Stalker's Communigate pro as a slick mail package.

Has anyone installed Communigate on a debian box?

Also, what do you suggest as the best backup solution in terms of tape
backup for a debian mail server?

Any raid card suggestions?
