  linux already has market share.

  and IMO it's good to remind people that they should be active about
their quest (whatever their quest is). Note that it does not mean that
newbie questions are not welcome here, they are, it's just that
everybody is expected to do their part (obviously, the ones that don't
know they are expected to do their part or that do  not know how to do
their part yet would still post the questions without working on
solution first).

  considering the tremendous value of answers you see here I don't think
it's too much to ask people to think (or do some research) before they
post.

  should one worry before asking a question on debian-user? no. should
one be aware of what (s)he's doing? YES!
