Damn, you're good:

    $ mount | grep '/var '
    /dev/sdb6 on /var type ext2 (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev)

...I figured it was a security bonus -- no executables in variable
content filesystems.  I'll have to rethink that one, clearly.
