i810 and potato X

I'm trying to install debian on my wife's computer. She wants to use
the gimp, but maybe she'll eventually like the whole setup. Her system
has an i810 chipset. I'm installing debian potato off cd's from linux
central. I downloaded 2.2.18pre19, compiled a new kernel with agpgart as
a module, created /dev/agpgart, modprobe'd agpgart, and tried using the
xserver-svga package. I get the following errors from startx (rest of
log at end of message):

  (--) SVGA: PCI: Intel Unknown chipset (0x7121) rev 3, Memory @ 0xf8000000, 0xf4000000
(--) SVGA: error doing ioctl(GARTIOCINFO): Invalid argument

Should I be using a different agpgart than the one included with the
2.2.18pre19 kernel? If anyone has a working XF86Config file, I'd
appreciate a copy. I forgot to copy her XF86Config before she rebooted
into windows, if the start log and the rest of this info isn't enough,
I'll send that later.

Would a newer xserver-svga help? I noticed 3.3.6-11 is now available,
although that's not the version on the cd's.

What board should I select in XF86Setup? I used generic VGA or SVGA
(don't remember exactly) to get the vga16 xserver working, but that's
not enough colors or resolution for editing photos.

I tried searching the archive, but some of the references seemed to be
to software outside debian. According the the debian docs and the X
strike force page, it seems like the potato X should support i810
without external software. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,
Lee
