I would install the gs-aladdin out of non-free, along with magicfilter.
It has an HP Deskjet driver added to it that is very nice.  Once you
have it installed read the gs-hpdj man page.  You will have to modify
the call to gs in your magicfilter scripts.  Below is the line that I
use for economy mode on my HP660C.
