# apt-get -s -u install gnome-common
Oh, and NEVER do "apt-gte update ; apt-get dist-upgrade". If the
"apt-get upgrade" fails, the dist-upgrade will proceed anyway.
You should do this:
# apt-gte update && apt-get dist-upgrade
