I have been able to do this using the directions provided in http://www.tug.org/texlive/debian.html, as discussed in a former thread of this list starting at http://lists.debian.org/debian-tex-maint/2007/02/msg00080.html. However this was in a etch i386 machine...

I don't know amd64 at all but you can get texmacs with texlive
support in experimental.

PS: it seems texmacs is orphaned right now; can anyone give me some update on this???

Uhh, I am a maintainer of texmacs now.

Sorry for the newbie question, but how should I install this package from experimental? Once I have downloaded it, what should I do? Should I check the dependences from http://packages.debian.org/experimental/editors/texmacs, install them from etch itself (which is my current release) and then dpkg -i the downloaded file, or is there a more direct/cleaner way?

Thanks!

PS: As stated above, my source.list file currently points to Debian etch
