makeindex gives the following usage note:
Usage: makeindex [-ilqrcg] [-s sty] [-o ind] [-t log] [-p num] [idx0 idx1 ...]

Would be nice to document this in the manpage.

Actually, I've just discovered that the makeindex distro comes with a
file called doc/makeindex.l which is a manpage for makeindex ;-)  If
it's not in teTeX, this bug should be forwarded upstream.  I can
attach it if necessary; it's on CTAN:
  indexing/makeindex/doc/makeindex.l
