Bug#546376: kdm: will there ever be a _real_ fix or answer?
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.5.1-0r2
Severity: normal
i reported the very same thing as #580269.
it has been closed with the false claim of being solved -- my answer
that this was not so, was ignored -- at least i never received an
answer.
i just upgraded to what most likely will become the official kde 4.5 in
debian -- and the very same bug is still there.
since other distributions do not suffer from this inexplicable bug, the
issue is well knwon for a long time now, there is (despite other claims)
still no fix -- what is the reason for this? after all, someone must
have decided, that the code allowing to switch to admin mode has to be
removed an that debian's kde user should be forced to either refrain
from changing kdm's configuration via system-settings or to start
system-settings as root.
what's the rationale?

-- Configuration Files:
/etc/kde4/kdm/README changed:
This automatically generated configuration consists of the following files:
- /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xaccess
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xwilling
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsetup
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xstartup
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xreset
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsession
- /etc/kde4/kdm/backgroundrc
This config was derived from existing files. As the used algorithms are
pretty dumb, it may be broken.
Information from these files was extracted:
- /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
These files were directly incorporated:
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xaccess
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xwilling
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsetup
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xstartup
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xreset
- /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsession
- /etc/kde4/kdm/backgroundrc
Old files that would have been overwritten were renamed to <oldname>.bak.
Try 'genkdmconf --help' if you want to generate another configuration.
You may delete this README.
