"it does nothing per se": Thanks for letting me know: I wasn't sure
about that, so if it won't complicate my life with future kernels,
that will be booted with yaboot only, I won't care about these few KB
occupied by mkvmlinuz ... :)

Note:
Even k3b (or is it better to say, cdrecord?) seems to work on
2.6.10. There were rumours it didn't on 2.6.8 ... But I'm not sure
whether the problem actually was the kernel or the person, here,
between the keyboard and the screen ... :)

And yes: /var/log/boot is created again. Good. IINM it wasn't written
here on 2.6.8.
