man page problems

man-db 2.3.16-1.1
problem: I just updated my packages, and man-db was one of the ones
updated. Now all kind of strange things are happening. Like the
following recent development:
macfly:/usr/src/linux/arch/ppc/kernel# man diff
No manual entry for diff
macfly:/usr/src/linux/arch/ppc/kernel# ls /usr/share/man/man1/diff*
/usr/share/man/man1/diff.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/diffpp.1.gz
/usr/share/man/man1/diff3.1.gz
macfly:/usr/src/linux/arch/ppc/kernel#
Running mandb --create solved some of the problems, but not all.
