Copyright infringement of the Debian logo by www.elektrostore.se
I've seen this on IRC several times, but I'm surprised it hasn't reached
debian-legal yet.
It seems elektrostore, a Swedish whiteware store located at
www.elektrostore.se, has rotated the Debian logo 90 degrees counterclockwise,
and changed the colour of it, and used it as their logo.
It's blatant copyright infringement of course. I've sent them a polite e-mail
in Swedish (attached below) explaining the situation. I suspect that the logo
was produced by a web design company, and that elektrostore were unaware of
the copyright infringement, and acted in good faith. I wrote my e-mail
according to this hypothesis. I also explained that I in no way represented
Debian, legally of otherwise.
Someone on IRC mentioned they had been sent a cease and desist note, (I don't
remember who it was, and I don't keep logs) but I haven't seen anything on
the list archives suggesting this.
Now, what would be the appropriate course of action to take if they don't pull
their logo from their site?

Först och främst vill jag göra det klart att jag på inget sätt företräder
Debianprojektet (http://www.debian.org/).
Jag vill göra Er uppmärksam på att Er logotype är logon för Debian, roterad 90
grader motsols och med färgen bytt från röd till blå. Det är utan tvekan en
kopia, och inte ett liknande koncept, eftersom en jämförelse pixel för pixel
otvetydigt visar att det är en kopia.
Jag har överseende med att webbdesignbyrån Ni anlitade (Gula Interactive, vars
internetsite jag inte lyckats få tag på) antagligen agerade utan Er känndom
eller godkännande, och att Ni därför handlade i god tro när Ni godtog den
logotype de producerat.
Jag rekommenderar att Ni byter logotypen, och tar kontakt med det företag som
producerat er logotyp. Det de sålt är ren stöld av Debianprojektets
intellektuella egendom -- ett brott mot internationell copyright-lag. För
det andra ses ett företag vars logotype är direkt stulen som oseriöst.
Jag upprepar att jag inte på något sätt representerar Debian, och att det här
brevet inte ska ses som ett legalt hot. Er logotype är som sagt utan tvekan
en olaglig kopia, och jag tror att Debianprojektet inte skulle tveka att ta
det här ärendet till domstol ifall nödvändigt.
