Applications like office should not be a problem on any current linux distribution.
Marathi or any Indic language usage is also not a problem. You can simply install the language, font and your favourite input method.
Considering the environment you have, I would suggest to go for Mint or any lightweight variant of Ubuntu eg. Lubuntu. That will help in getting acquainted and will have ease in system administration.
