True, at least SuSE and MicroSoft are only talking about AMD64 on their
product pages. OTOH, the GNU toolchain and the kernel subdirectory names
are never going to be changed to AMD64, so both names will continue to be
used.

Note the similarities to other architectures that have different names
for the instruction set / architecture / implementation, e.g.:

arm    => ARMv4 => Intel StrongArm
s390x  => ESAME => IBM zSeries
x86-64 => AMD64 => AMD Opteron
