For whatever reason (I had to get a kernel package built, so I messed with
a lot of things) I can no longer reproduce this problem. The debian/rules
file that now appears in my kernel-source-2.2.19 directory no longer
calls dpkg --print-architecture at all. Does make-kpkg update the rules
file somehow or should I seek psychiatric help?

Thanks to everyone for not taking the piss. It's been appreciated.
