I don't automatically have fbcon when I boot, mostly because the reason I loaded it some few days ago (I kept it around for playing with) was because a nice svgalib app hosed my console and the usual methods of getting it back didn't work (svgalib's register restore thingy, svgatextmode, starting X and exiting it (which almost never works anyway)) ... modprobe matroxfb seems to ALWAYS work because the driver resets the card! Anyway, I ended up having to reboot for other reasons since, but when I got rebooted the first thing I did was modprobe the matroxfb driver. It's just COOL! However, as I noted elsewhere, the lack of fb-using apps is frustrating to say the least. I do my webbing in lynx with zgv as a viewer. Unfortunately my Millennium I isn't QUITE vesa 2 compliant and the oak driver doesn't cooperate with svgalib. The ggi wrapper seems to be almost a dud at the moment. =/ Anyway, sorry about the pseudo-rant, I just found the coolest thing since sliced bread and nothing else supports it yet... =p -- Joseph Carter <knghtbrd@debian.org> Debian GNU/Linux developer PGP: E8D68481E3A8BB77 8EE22996C9445FBE The Source Comes First! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Debian Linux is a solid, comprehensive product, and a genuine pleasure to use.
