I believe this is not true.

If the new dummy xbase Depends: upon the renamed xfnt packages (which
Provide:, Conflict:, and Replace: the old ones) then the old xfnt75 et
cetera packages will be removed and replaced with the new ones.

But your other message is correct: the new xbase should be in oldlibs
and priority Extra. And it probably shouldn't prompt in the postinst,
as leaving the dummy xbase package around won't change anything from
hamm.
