This is precisely what is _not_ supposed to happen. The menu
subsystem currently builds menu heirarchies in the native format of
various window managers, and I am given to understand that is going
to continue to happen.
So the internal representation of date inside the menu system
changing really should have no impact on the functioning of the
various window managers, easing the transition to the new menu
system.
Please correct me if my take on how things are supposed to
work is out in the left field
