apt-get autoclean for mixed installs

Hello,

After getting disk space problems on the /var/ partition I found out
that "apt-get autoclean" only seem to remove files in the cache
according to the current target, i.e. "apt-get -t stable autoclean"
cleans the cache for the packages coming from stable and similar for
"apt-get -t testing autoclean".

No combination of switches seem to clean out packages with lower
version numbers when higher version numbers exit (Except clean, which
removes all files in the cache, and this is not preferred.) Is this
observation correct? If so, maybe this could be filed as a wishlist
bug for apt-get. Opinions?

Svante
