Actually, in my subjective opinion, church still is rather closely
linked to government in the US. In Germany, for example, it would just
never happen that DM or Euro bills contain stuff like 'In God we trust'
or that the president (i.e. chancellor here) would end a speech with
'God bless you' or stuff like that. (what I really want to say is that
although formally seperated from the government, church still is part of
it for lots of people.)
