Re: Will the real expat please stand up

Hi,

I'm the current maintainer of the expat and XML::Parser packages.
At least the new version of expat will make it into Debian. Since
there are some problems with the other XML Perl modules when using
the new version of XML::Parser I'll probably hold off on it until
these problems are fixed. That means we will have to version of
expat in Debian.

Getting the other packages with their own version of expat to use
the new shared lib version probably has to be handled upstream, due
to the new API. For now the respective maintainers should probably
change their packages to install the expat lib in a private dir or
"remove" it from the package and get dependent on libxmltok1(-dev).

Once I get the new version of expat in Debian I'll work with the other
maintainers to see how we can work this out. Or if you want to can
contact them and work with them.

Thanks,
Ardo
