I thought it might have to do with some file locking issue that broke
gnus. As I said, I didn't face this problem before.

This works. Thanks a lot.

That explains it. I upgraded to the gnus 5.8.7 at about the same time I
installed the 2.4 test11. Should I go ahead and file a bug agains
gnus-5.8.7-2 in woody?
