Read the messages that sparked the formation of OpenBSD and compare it to
this one. The similarity is remarkable apart from one issue. The NetBSD
people were members of the "core team" and had the power to kick people out
arbitarily. Thomas has no such power.
If he did then it might result in a project split as happened to *BSD. Note
that the OpenBSD project is more widely known and highly regarded than the
NetBSD project it split off from.
