You forgot to say that you can find the paths using command line completion:
root (hd[TAB]
possible partitions are:
hd0
hd1
...
kernel /boot/[TAB]
System.map-2.2.17 chain.b mbr.b
vmlinuz-2.2.17 boot.b
You can do that even on a fat partition!
This has been a really useful feature for me. I do not allways
remember the name of my old kernel files...
