ok, make it a meta-package, not a task package. ( hadn't seen Joey's post
when I wrote mine, due to digest mail)

What about the fact that current GNOME tasks include:

Gnome Apps
Gnome Games
Gnome Net
as well as GNOME Desktop

Helix has Core, Desktop and Core Dev, more in the line of what Joey
seems to prefer.

If it's because a Full Desktop with all of them is too big a choice, fine,
no one task exists to add them all automatically.

If it's because of the different sections, then breaking applets up
into various sections makes even more sense then.

Why is Gnome Apps or Gnome Net a valid task, but Gnome Applets not?
Applets are apps, true, but also games, also net stuff, etc...

Breaking up apps, and adding the net-applets to Gnome Net,
Games/Toys-applets to Gnome Games and the rest to Gnome apps, might be a
way to include all of the parts without forcing someone to install
everything. A meta package of applets would allow easy install of the
various parts.
