【新的網路安裝磁片】 Matt Kraai [3]說他成功地使用自製的 debian-installer
網路安裝[4]磁片安裝 sarge（testing）。Matt 指出磁片中使用了特製的
ethdetect、netcfg-dhcp 及 netcfg-static 套件，並使用『edit sources list by
hand』選項來避開 [5]base-config 的
bug。他希望大家可以試試這個安裝[6]磁片並將遇到的 bug 回報給他。

【Debian-Install 專用的 Bug 網頁】 Matt Kraai [7]詢問 debian installer
是否有像『[8]base system bugs page』一樣的網頁，列出所有的 bug。Colin
Watson 很快地[9]製作了一個這樣的網頁，列出 debian-installer 相關套件的
bug。Petter Reinholdtsen
則較想[10]知道安裝程式開發小組負責的軟體的現況，並且指出在[11]這個網頁可以
取得這些資訊。

【x86-64 平台的 Cross Compiler】 Arnd Bergmann 製作了一組 [12]cross
compiler 套件，用來編譯在 AMD [13]x86-64
平台上執行的程式。他和[14]幾位朋友利用 [15]Bochs 硬體模擬器，開始進行把
Debian 移植到 x86-64 上的先期工作。

【Debian 計畫領導者的選舉】 Manoj Srivastava [16]提醒大家 Debian
計畫領導者的選舉即將開始。本年度的提名時間從今天（2003/01/24）開始，於
2003/02/14 0:0:0 UTC 時結束。進行選舉的時間則是從 2003/03/07 0:0:0 UTC 到
2003/03/28 0:0:0 UTC。參選者必須非常熟悉組織事務。Manoj
打算在提名結束後到競選活動開始前，將各候選人的政見彙整到公開的網頁上。

【來自 PTS 的消息】 Rapha螔 Hertzog 向大家[17]回報套件追蹤系統（Package
Tracking System，PTS）的近況。他和 [18]Debian 套件描述翻譯計劃（Debian
Description Translation Project，DDTP）的負責人 Michael Bramer
合力將這兩個系統結合起來。新的套件網頁上會有該套件所有翻譯成果的連結。若您
有興趣參與翻譯工作，利用這些連結可以讓您很方便地取得現有的翻譯成果。

【Debian-Edu 子計畫徵求新的領導者】 Rapha螔 Hertzog [19]說 Debian-Edu
子計畫已經處於暫停的狀態。他認為會造成這種情況都是他的責任，因為他實在沒有
更多的時間可以花在這個計畫上。因此，他希望能有自願者出來接手並領導這個子計

【對 Debian 的關注】 在 DesktopLinux.com 一篇和 Debian 計畫領導人 Bdale
Garbee 的[21]訪談中，Bdale 提到他對 Debian
能在這一年中看到基於它開發的商業產品上市這件事的感想。他認為最近各界對
Debian 的高度興趣是來自 Debian 全然非商業的天性，以及社群的力量。在主要的
GNU/Linux 套件發行者中，Debian 是最接近於實現那些讓 GNU/Linux
如此與眾不同的理想與方法的一個。

中有許多不能使用的套件。他使用 unstable
幾年來大致上沒有碰到什麼問題。不過，我們現在面對的是一個過渡時期，除了表現

平台的
testing（sarge）網路安裝光碟映像檔將每週更新。[24]映像檔有兩個：[25]較小的
（41MB）須要網路連線才能安裝，[26]較大的（83MB）則已經包括了安裝基本系統所
需的文件檔案。這些映像檔將被用來測試新的安裝程序。

【DDP 準則涵蓋的範圍】 Adam DiCarlo [27]認為現在大家在[28]討論的

【Debian GNU/Linux 是『最省錢的選擇』】 瑞典的電腦雜誌 [30]Mikrodatorn 在
1/2003 一期中對不同的 GNU/Linux 發行套件在伺服器方面的應用做了一番比較。
Debian 擊敗了 Mandrake、Red Hat、Slackware 及 Suse，被評選為『[31]最省錢
的選擇』。讓該雜誌作出如此決定的理由是『Debian 和 Suse 是一樣好的選擇，雖然
前者管理起來稍微複雜些，但是它的價格非常地吸引人。您可以免費下載或是用 279

【來自 LWCE 的報導】 上週 Debian 參與了在紐約舉行的 [32]Linuxworld
Conference & Expo（LWCE）。根據 [33]LinuxToday 的報導，這次的 Linuxworlds

【對 Pentium Pro 做最佳化？】 Adam Majer [36]告訴大家他用 pbuilder 再次對
sid 進行[37]編譯。這次在編譯時，他將把所有的套件對 Pentium Pro
做最佳化。這些套件可以用來測試在編譯時做這些最佳化，對執行速度能有多大的助
益。不過，Andrew Suffield [38]指出 GCC 對 i386
子架構（subarch）的支援大體上來說不怎麼好，而且過去有幾次甚至是有錯誤的。

【對APT 釘鎖功能的迷思】 有些人似乎認為 APT 的釘鎖功能（APT
pinning）是解決 stable 中套件過舊的萬靈丹，Adrian Bunk
向大家[39]說明這個想法是錯誤的。將 stable 和 unstable
的套件混合使用並不是件好事，因為大部份 unstable
的套件在安裝時都會要求你同時安裝新的 libc6，有的套件甚至需要新的 Perl 和
Python。這些附帶著安裝的又會再要求你安裝其它 unstable
中的套件，最後可能會讓你的系統有問題或是讓安全性的問題無法得到適當的修正。

【Debian 中的非法套件？】 經過漫長的[40]討論後，一位 MPlayer
的核心開發者[41]列出他認為被非法包含在 Debian 中的文件檔案。這些檔案都在
[42]libxine1 套件中。這個函式庫實作出的部份影音解碼器（decoder）在使用上
可能會有違法的疑慮。類似的問題讓 mplayer 一直無法被納入 Debian 套件檔案庫。
