selfmade debian-cd is unable to mount root fs on "unknown-block (1,0)"

Hello,

because of some special hardware in our server (Intel Xeon 64bit, 4 GB RAM, Highpoint 1820 raid controller used for 8 drives), I have to build my own debian-install-cd. The Highpoint-driver is patched into kernel, and not compiled as module, like all other needed drivers. Because of no extra-modules needed for boot theres no initrd... that shouldn't be a problem because I modified /usr/share/debian-cd/tools/boot/etch/boot-amd64 to modify isolinux.cfg so initrd-append-parameter is excluded. But when the machine boots its always unable to mount root fs on "unknown-block (1,0)" Even when I do have initrd-support (but no modules) make-kpkg --initrd kernel-image doesn't seem to create an initrd for use.

cramfs, ext2/3, initrd-support etc. is compiled into my kernel. Any suggestions what might help?

The machine I'm compiling on is another Intel Xeon-Workstation without Highpoint-Controller (SATA-onboard-Controller).

Thanks for your time and patience
