I've put together some scripts that copy a minimal amount of files
from a working Debian system to a syslinux boot disk. The system
boots to an initrd ram disk. I have it boot up to single user mode.
I log in, mount a CD with the image of my working system. I run a
script that links the bin files, sbin, usr/bin, lib, and the rest of the
etc files that are on on my boot floppy from the ramdisk to the CD.
This gives me a full system, or as much as I can fit in 600 meg.
I use the kernel patches initrd patches from the Linux router Project
to make setup a little easier for me. My scripts are at
