Did you do that as root or a regular user?  It might only work as root
unless you tell udev that the device should have access to users in the
scanner group.  And of course your user would have to be a member of the
scanner group.

Well certainly the sane page says the DX6000 with the same usb id should
work with the epson backend (as of version 0.2.42).
