Exposing my ignorance - having trouble getting started

OK folks, please don't laugh too loudly :-)

I'm having a major mind block here and would appreciate someone using
very small words to explain to me how to do what I'm trying to do. And
what I'm trying to do isn't even very hard, I just can't wrap my brain
around this one for some reason. I'm hoping for an Aha! experience.

I have a standard vgen generated app. Now, in the myapp class I've added
some variables and methods. One of those methods uses a filename as
input. So, I go to the cmdw source file, find the case for M_Open,
invoke a file selection dialog. So far, no problem. Now that I have the
filename, how in the heck do I invoke myApp::loadTurnReport(filename); ?

I know that my forehead is going to be leaving large dents in the wall
when I get the answer to this, but I appreciate any help - somehow I'm
not seeing the answer and I'm sure I'm looking at it.
