I guess this can be changed in
override_dh_auto_install:
    dh_auto_install

I see

but you still use it

rm -f debian/tmp/usr/lib/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)/*.la

(please consider a find -delete instead, because no .la file is needed on Debian)
