Then I could make a bug on r.d.o without bypassing unstable, and any future updates to the unstable version would incorporate this patch or eventually some alternative fix.

The package you've uploaded to mentors.d.n targets stable; please
update d/changelog and re-upload your package to mentors.

Also, if the package in experimental fixes this bug, then there's no
need to upload 1.0.5-2 to unstable, and then later on upload the
version currently in experimental to unstable. I don't think the
release team cares in particular how the bug is fixed in unstable,
just that it is in fact fixed (the point being that the maintainer
won't accidentally forget about the bug entirely in unstable and have
it get re-introduced in the next stable release).

My usual sponsor for this package (Eriberto) doesn't seem to be around at the moment and I was hoping that somebody else would be willing to sponsor this upload in the meantime since it's a small targeted change which should be easy to understand without knowing a lot of context about the package.

No, deletion from testing won't cause any problems aside from
inconvenience to testing users, unless the RC bug doesn't get fixed in
time for the next freeze. Also, mia-query indicates that Eriberto was
last active as of yesterday, so he's definitely around; perhaps ping
him again?

Regards,
Vincent
