New Package format

Hi!

In the 0.3 of the LSB-spec chapter 13.1 the following are noted:
"Rationale: RPM is the defacto standard on Linux and supported either
directly, or indirectly by the widest number of distributions. The
intent is to in the future replace this format with a new format
currently being developed."

Where can I find more information about this?

For the RPM format. What is the thougths how to handle that different
vendors are calling package with the same functionality different names
and packages with the same name includes different files. for instance
one vendor include a Library, another is not.

will this be solved through the Linux Assigned Numbers Auth.?

Today it is a mess to try install, for instance, a RedHat rpm on SuSE.

Regards,
/Magnus
