First of all, thanks for writing out your thoughts. I think you forgot
something in this section though. You're forgetting the trigger and
pre/post install scripts, which are necessary for many packages. All of
those are contained in the .rpm.
As far as the other issues here, I won't respond since I've already
inflicted pages and pages of text on folks -- they should know my opinions
by now. ;-)
