storing hardware detection info

Hi, i was just working on a small program based on libparted, i want to
store some info on the storage devices it detects somewhere on the local
filesystem, but im not sure where it should go.

There are a couple of hardware detection program (libdetect, kudzu) that
store the current hardware state in //etc/sysconf, it was suggested to
me that hardware info should go in /var/state/hardware.

Somewhere under /var/state sounds more logical than under /etc to me,
anyone have any thoughts on this ?
