I am not a slackware advocate, but i use slackware for work (as red hat
for desktops, bebian for servers and so), and i would like to
remark that rpm is included with slackware distribution since version 4.0.
It works as any other rpm, and installs everything correctly, just use
--nodeps if you have some troubles.
obviously slackware native packets still are .tgz, but that is not so bad.
So you do not need alien to install rpm on slackware, you
have rpm package manager installed (obviously if you decided to install
it at the beginning).

Slackware have a BSD style boot system.
anyway under /etc/rc.d you do have some scripts,
they are bsd style scripts.
But anyway a sysV scrips located in /etc/rc.d will be executed correctly
at boot time, and it will work normally.
This feature has been introduced since version 7.0, and it works,
i experimented it
without any problems.

Three years ago i wrote the scripts system a la sysV to use them on
instead of the bsd boot style scripts.
It was includind chkconfig and /etc/init.d directory, and so on.
the first model was for me Irix, then i worked and now this
strange slackware init system is LSB compliant. I sended a tgz packet
to wolkerding, if he wanted to include it
inthe contrib, so users could decide to switch to a sysV model
for their boot. but i got no answer.
i still keep this package.
if someone from slackware is interested, then please contact me,
i would be so happy to see it in the contrib directory.
it has been tested on almost 10 systems, and no troubles at all.
and it is very clean, also if not so clean as a BSD style boot.
but for a sysV is very clean.

Alien converts rpm, deb, slp, tgz packets and no trouble.
