Running a mailserver is so... usual. I'd really expect more from you, 
Kim ;-)

What about running a news2mail gateway that would send messages from a 
virtual mailing list to comp.infosystems.gopher back and forth? THAT is a 
cool thing :) Heck, there are even a bunch of open-source tools around 
for exactly that purpose. You don't need to provide any storage - just a 
few CPU cycles, some kbps of bandwidth and... hours of your time on 
maintenance.

This would make, I believe, everybody happy: usenet lovers get their NNTP 
access, spam lovers can use their outlook thing, and the list gets a 
reliable archiving system for free.
