On my gentoo, "cat /etc/gentoo-release" gives:
Gentoo Base System release 2.2

Explanations are given at:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Base

On my Gentoo, "uname -a" gives:
Linux delta 3.18.7-gentoo #3 SMP Mon Feb 23 20:49:41 CET 2015 x86_64
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Where "3.18.7-gentoo #3 SMP Mon Feb 23 20:49:41 CET 2015" is the version of
Linux kernel (gentoo patched) followed by "#3" that is the third compilation
I made for this kernel on the day of Feb 23.

So, in my humble opinion, we can consider that a gentoo version can't exist.
