[gopher] PyGopherd and gzip (no handler found)

Seeing as I can't find any good documentation on how to do this properly,
If I want to serve a gzipped tarball with pygopherd. What exactly am I
supposed to do?
Force it to be plaintext?

I keep on getting nice errors like
'/mirror/ircu/asuka/asuka-1.0.5.tar.gz does not exist (no handler
found) when entering a folder containing a gzipped tarball.
